THE 'BAJAMAR EXPRESS', RECOGNIZED AS 'RELEVANT' SHIP OF THE YEAR 2020 BY THE ASSOCIATION OF NAVAL ENGINEERS.

22/04/2021 | Fred. Olsen Express

The recognition to this trimaran that connects Santa Cruz Tenerife with Agaete has been granted by the Association of Naval Engineers (RINA), one of the most relevant institutions in the sector of design, construction, maintenance and operation of vessels and marine structures.

The Bajamar Express, one of the most innovative trimarans of Fred. Olsen, has been recognized as relevant ship of the year 2020 by the Royal Institution of Marine Engineers (RINA), one of the most important professional entities in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of ships and marine structures, with a presence in more than 90 countries.

With 118 meters in length and a capacity for 1,100 passengers and 276 cars, the first commercial trip of this vessel took place in August 2020 between the ports of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Agaete, after arriving in July to Gran Canaria from Perth, in Australia, where in 2018 began its construction.

The Bajamar Express stands out for having sustainable materials that reduce fuel consumption, emissions and impact on the environment, as well as for incorporating the MARINELINK system that uses Big Data to allow a more comfortable navigation, capable of adapting at all times to weather conditions.

Likewise, its lounges have been designed to enhance passenger comfort including details such as a lighting system that automatically adjusts to the ship's position, calculated by GPS, and its Clase Oro, which has an exclusive outdoor area or executive style reclining seats.

Passengers on the fast ferry also enjoy multiple bars, a store, and a children's entertainment area on board.

Fred. Olsen Express and the Maritime Design Centre of the Austal shipyard in Henderson, Australia, held in August 2018 the so-called 'First Sheet Cutting' of the Bajamar Express. A ceremony that marked the beginning of a nautical journey after months of interactions to improve every detail of the boat.
