INNOVATION, EFFICIENCY, REDUCTION AND THE ENVIRONMENT SINCE 1974.

Since our origins, we have been driven by our passion for the sea. That is why we have always strived to be pioneers in initiatives aimed at reducing our impact on the environment. We address the environmental impact of the routes we operate, implementing measures in our processes and operations, with the aim of reducing our environmental footprint.

Find out more about our initiatives below, starting with a graphical overview of our progress!

Our sea adventure begins!

We start with the commitment to use resources efficiently. More savings, less consumption.

Our maxim: less is more

We are committed to linking the islands at the closest points, reducing the number of hours of navigation and the impact on the sea.

New routes, same commitment

In 1989 we extended connections and implemented our philosophy in the new branches.

We became the watchtowers of the sea

Since 1995, we have been conducting on-board whale watching, for study and preservation purposes.

We changed our transport model

From conventional ships, we opted for fast ferries and worked to make them durable and efficient models.

We optimised weights

We seek efficiency by minimising the weight of our vessels. The lighter the ship, the less power it uses and, therefore, the lower the emissions.

We improved structures

We designed hulls for our vessels with less resistance to the sea, which translates into less energy expenditure in navigation.

We lowered the ramps

We moved the ship's access ramps ashore. They are normally carried on board. This change allowed us to reduce more weight and emissions.

We adjusted our routes

We adapted our routes in the south of Tenerife to reduce transits in areas frequented by marine fauna.

We looked for better fuel

We pioneered the use of Marine Gas Oil: a lighter, less polluting and lower sulphur fuel.

We appointed more guardians

We designated more marine fauna spotters to encourage their study and to adjust our travel courses.

We applied silicone paint on our hulls

And, since 2011, fluoropolymers, which further reduce water resistance in the fleet and thus fuel usage.

We looked for new projects!
We partnered with universities to support studies on the environment. CetaVist (ULL) was our first.

We raised the travel standard

We launched the first trimaran for the Canary Islands, laying the foundations for future improvements in sailing.

We turned down the volume

In 2006 we connected to shore-based power, to eliminate emissions and environmental noise during use.

We shut down the engines

When stopping in ports, we keep the engines at the minimum essential, reducing consumption and emissions.

Goodbye to boarding passes!

We said goodbye to paper during boardings. And as a result, we have reduced the use of 4 tonnes of paper per year.

Hello, Zero Paper!
We are committed to reducing paper consumption across the company, achieving a 74% reduction between 2014 and 2022.
We dreamed of innovating...

We devised the world's first prototype Ropax Fast Ferry with a dual engine, also capable of running on Liquefied Natural Gas.

We further minimised our consumption.
We promote a company culture focused on reducing electricity, fuel and paper consumption.
We innovated with new ventilation systems

We optimise ventilation in our engine rooms with energy-saving dampers.

We recorded our carbon footprint

We had it certified by the Ministry for Ecological Transition to measure and control our impact.

We accelerated towards more efficiency

We designed two new trimarans, following new criteria for energy efficiency and greater sustainability.

We raised awareness among our staff

We initiated internal awareness campaigns to promote safe environmental practices.

We are committed to further reducing the use of resources

Fewer printers, new refrigeration systems, new lighting systems, reuse.

We reduced our emissions over long distances

Together with Balearia, we opted for LNG fuel on routes to Huelva, achieving a -30% CO2 reduction* *Balearia data.

We eliminated plastics on board

We replaced them with household items with less environmental impact, reducing up to 6.2 tonnes/year of plastic.

We dived into the sea to protect it

We started a new marine protection project (ULL), with thermal camera tests and publicity activities.

We redesigned our routes

We further reduced the miles of navigation through Special Areas of Conservation (SAC).

We also achieved the ISO 14001 certification

Which demonstrates that we prioritise environmental opportunities and risks in an appropriate way.

We minimised our waste

We created offers to distribute, at reduced prices, products from our cafeterias before they expire.

We stimulated local economies

We prioritised the selection of local suppliers to supply shops, cafeterias and other areas of our service.

SUSTAINABLE SERVICE

Caring for our seas means reducing waste. For this reason, in all our fleet and work centres we are committed to zero paper and we replace single-use plastics with alternatives that have less environmental impact. We have waste segregation stations that encourage recycling and we are smoke-free spaces.
